Week 9

I have been going to Greenleaf yoga the past week. I have gone three times with Laine and it has been great! We tried restorative yoga first and now we are just doing Vinyasa. It is so relaxing and different to do it with an actual instructor there with you. I really enjoyed it. The instructor is so friendly and the atmosphere and vibe from the studio is relaxing, calming, and peaceful. I definitely want to keep going to yoga sessions – I feel so relaxed after a session and I feel that I am refocused and rejuvenated.

Week 8

I had to do an assignment for my anthropology class and I chose to do yoga. I decided to go with my friend, Laine to a yoga class at Greenleaf yoga. It was a restorative yoga session so it was completely different than the yoga I have done before. We only did four poses and held them for longer periods of time – it was more body weight focused. It was so relaxing, I almost fell asleep. It was calming and I felt like it really helped de-stress me. I loved going with Laine and I think she enjoyed the class as well. The studio was having a deal where you pay $30 for two-weeks of unlimited yoga and me and Laine both decided to do it. The next two weeks will be leading up to finals so we though it would be a good way to de-stress and refocus a couple times a week.

Week 7

I did not get to do yoga this week. I was so busy and tired that it escaped my mind. I had methods assignments due and I ended up going to sleep around 1 am every night. I am definitely going to be doing a few sessions this next week.

project update summary

Hello! This is my project update summary for you all! Over the past two months, I have been doing yoga sessions about two times a week. My goal was to do yoga more frequently – my original thought was that I was going to do yoga four times a week but I quickly realized that I need to start slower and work my way up. I am currently still doing two yoga sessions a week and sometimes a third one if I feel like I have the time.

The biggest obstacle I have faced is the goal I had for myself to do yoga in the morning. I very quickly realized that getting up earlier than I already do was not the best idea and probably was not very likely to happen. I refocused and rearranged my day so I would be able to do yoga in the evening or at night before bed. This helped me not only find time to do yoga but gave me more time to workout and more time for myself. I also realized that by doing yoga sessions before I go to bed, I am less likely to be looking at my phone as much before bed. Doing yoga at night has helped me improve my sleep hygiene significantly because it has set a routine and helps me relax, wind down, and think and reflect on the day.  I have reached my end goal of doing a headstand because I realized it was not as difficult as I expected. I have not been rewarding myself with the items I said I would – mainly because I chose items that cost money and I am a broke college student. I plan to treat myself to a spa day for my birthday coming up in a few weeks as my ultimate treat and reward.

Doing yoga has definitely increased my flexibility, which was one of my goals! I stretch more frequently and regularly which has helped so much. I also notice that the yoga is helping my muscles recover faster after I lift weights.

Moving forward, I am planning to increase my yoga sessions to three times a week so I can eventually reach my goal of four times a week. I am loving yoga! I am naturally a very stiff, tense, stressed person so having an outlet of yoga regularly has improved a lot. I am more relaxed, less stressed, working out more regularly, sleeping better, and making healthier choices throughout the day.

Week 6

I only did yoga once this week. I went to Long Beach with my friend, Laine who is training to become a certified yoga teacher. We did ‘yoga on the bluff’ which overlooks the ocean. It was so beautiful and a very different experience than doing yoga in my room. It was way more social than what I am used to so it was a good change! I loved going with Laine because she is so knowledgable about yoga, so I could learn some new things. Everyone was so nice and I really enjoyed it! I would love to come back and do it again.

week 5

I did yoga for three sessions this week at 30 minutes and one-hour session which is an increase since last week so I think I am progressing! I did a headstand which was my ultimate goal. I realized it was not as hard as I had originally thought.

week 4

I did three sessions this week and I really notice a difference in how I feel. I feel more flexible, refreshed, relaxed, and less stressed. Also, doing my sessions at night seem to be helping me sleep.

week 3

This week, I only managed to do yoga once because I was so swamped with school work and methods. I did it at night for only 20 minutes so I feel like I did not make as much progress as I should have. I am going to try to schedule the sessions in more regularly.

week 2

I started doing my yoga sessions at night because it is a lot easier to implement. Doing these sessions is so refreshing and nice and helps me relax. I also love the stretching component. This week I only did two sessions for 30 minutes each but I feel good about it!

week 1

Today was the first day that I have tried my yoga routine. It was ROUGH trying to get up but eventually did. It was late so I only did 20 minutes of yoga. It was refreshing and got me ready for the day!

I also did yoga on Thursday and Sunday and I decided that I need to do yoga in the evening or nights because waking up early was too difficult and I am not as much of a morning person as I thought.
